Wadsworth Youth Softball
Coach Code of Conduct Policy
As a WYBSA coach, I therefore agree:
I will remember that I am a youth sports coach and that the game is for the children, not the adults.
I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my players ahead of any personal desire to win.
I will emphasize skill development and fair play over winning, especially in the lower age groups.
I will be a positive role model, leading by example in demonstrating sportsmanship, respect, and courtesy to all.
I will praise my players for trying hard and competing fairly, and I will never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake.
I will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the league and teach them to my players.
I will treat every player, coach, official, parent, and spectator with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex, ability, national origin, or sexual orientation.
I will not engage in any unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, player, or parent, such as booing, taunting, or using profane language or gestures.
I will resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence and will expect the same from my players and their parents.
I will respect the umpires and league officials and their authority during every game.
I will set the standard for my team by not disputing, challenging, or publicly arguing decisions made by officials.
I will communicate with league officials and opposing coaches in a professional and constructive manner.
I will inform myself of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my players.
I will ensure a sports environment that is free from drugs, alcohol, and tobacco (including vaping), and I will refrain from their use at all league events.
I will follow all social distancing and health guidelines set by local and state authorities.
I will maintain control of my dugout and ensure that only authorized players and coaches are present during the game.
I agree that if I fail to abide by the aforementioned rules and guidelines, I will be subject to disciplinary actions by WYBSA that could include, but are not limited to:
Verbal warning by a WYBSA Board Member.
Written warning.
Game suspension or immediate ejection from an event issued by an authorized WYBSA official.
Probation or permanent removal from coaching duties within the organization.
As a coach in the WYBSA, your acceptance of this Code of Conduct is a requirement of the coaching application and registration process.
